According to Cassell's French-English dictionary, the origin of the word Can-Can is "tittle-tattle, noisy, scandalous gossip," and Isa describes the double word as an "indecent dance." THE ORIGINAL Can-Can has been modified, as it undoubtedly was indecent in the beginning, and It has been expanded to include cartwhetls and the split.
